A lesson on "patience" observing my friend "PeeWee" (cat) as she waits patiently for a mouse that she "hopes" will show up in the garage. As one did over a year ago! If I had that much patience no telling what I could do.

Fight or Flight is the Question?

I say fight not flight and keep fighting for your right to live life aggressively and thankfully. As a "Cancer Fighting Specialist" fight the good fight for life is a key attitude for those with cancer and any other life threatening disease. I've found that the right attitude, a good and positive attitude about the "Big C" is key to the journey. Don't get me wrong it's some scary stuff, not an easy ride, painful mentally and physically at times and not what I wish on my worst enemy.

But the right attitude, some good ole' fashion, "I can do it", "I can get through it" stuff is what it's all about. The flight option can cross your mind, the "I can't handle this" attitude can slip in on you if you're not watching the front door of your mind. it's easy to deposit negative thoughts just as it's easy to deposit positive thoughts, it's a choice. Now I can share these thoughts with you because I've walked the hallways to my radiation treatments and sit while the chemo ran through my system. But I choose to fight not flight, fight not give up or give in to the cancer. Sometimes when I share it may sound simple, but the fight wasn't easy and it may never been done, the battle will always be on, in my mind, my future exciting picture and my passion to encourage others.

I've created six reasons to keep living and enjoying your gift of life. The book will be out soon, I want it to be a gift of hope and encouragement to others. If you were going to share your story what part of the process made the biggest difference to your decision to fight or flight?

Step right up to the greatest and most rewarding process this life has to offer- the art of selling!

With the art of selling you journey through the process from facts to benefits, to advantages into the emotional buying habits to helping, guiding, overcoming, enriching others and serving. The sales process has been in operation for thousands of years, from the caveman selling another on the best cave to dwell, to Moses selling the idea that the floods were coming, to mom's selling their kids on when and why to clean their rooms.

From the ancient days to the great western frontier, someone has been selling something. From self-help books to cook books, too how to get rich books, selling ideas have kept this world evolving and growing. The Process, handed from one person to another, from the hand shake to the legal contract, selling has always been away of life. Not much is eaten, worn, drove, rode, watched, touched, smelled or listened too that was not on the sales table at sometime or another.

From an idea, to the planning stages, to the factory, the shelf, the sales process has traveled. The sales process isn't a bad thing, it's not all about the "used car salespeople" it's really good for all. If it can be thought-up, written-up, drafted, manufactured, marketed and then sold, it can change a life, put people to work, a shirt on your back and food on the table, kids through college and a nice nest egg for your future. Just because a sale was completed, many things happened, and it's all in the sales process, the steps to success. It's not the "close" of the sale that makes the difference, it's the "opening" of an opportunity through the sale that makes the difference.

The Process works! Sales is a simple and rewarding process of helping people not selling to people. To master the art of selling, you must master the art of the process. Hope is not a strategy

Hope is not a strategy, it helps, encourages motivation and inspiration, but it is not a success driven strategy.

This piece is for the professional sales person and business manager or leader. The topic title is about strategic thinking and planning for your daily success. Here's the key to this topic, never begin your day until it's been completed on paper! One minute of planning can save you ten minutes of unmanaged time and allow for more sales time. Hope is good, healthy and you've got to have hope for a better future. There is a quote that states; if there is hope for a better future there is power today to get you there. In sales hope can keep you moving forward but a strategic plan for the day, week or month can get you results.

While coaching and training sales professionals and groups we discuss the "strategic sales pie" which is the breakdown of where the business is coming from; example from my last coaching session with a Insurance Agent; 15% referral, 40% inbound calls, 20% marketing reply, 5% website inquires, 10% networks, 10% other. The objective was to look for more strategic ways to plan for a faster results focused plan, such as; 35% referral, 10% website inquires, 30% inbound calls, 25% networks, the key was to plan the days events around making new contacts through networking, and reconnecting with existing customers to build on the referral side of the business. Hope for a successful plan is great, but developing a sales plan, and then the what and how on paper through strategic thinking and planning and putting into action daily goals is the key.

I guess you can hit the pavement hoping to get some business, having lunch with people you know that may connect you with someone who may buy into your programs, hoping that you'll get a call from your website or the phone book, or hoping that someone may call you out of the wild blue to give you the order for the day. As a sales trainer, the process is where the fulfillment begins, the chase, the discovery, the planning, the daily wins based upon the plan. That's were the rubber hits the pavement, that's the excitement I see with very successful sales professionals.

It's in the will and the skill, the skill can be taught, the will comes from the passion, the drive, the execution of the plan. Don't base your day on hope, find a mentor, hire a coach, I know a good one! learn to enjoy the process of planning your day. Hope is not a strategy, there is nothing wrong with the gifts from above, the call that comes in on a slow day, the big order that falls into your lap. All good, but as sales professionals and business leaders we can't base the forecast, the business plan on hope. We need a plan, then we need the will to put the plan into action, then the ability to make u-turns, adjustments to the plan, and know when we've hit the wall.

I hope you complete your day on paper before you begin your next sales day, develop the plan, see the plan come alive, acknowledge any obstacles, and any objections that may come and be ready, complete the days sales plan, see the rewards, count the commission, then get out there and go to work!

Your Legacy is Now!

It was Friday April 16, 2010 traveling home from an all day sales training/coaching session, maybe not more than 20 minutes from the pad that the "Now" kicked in. The question I must ask first is this; how many vehicles will be in your parade?

On this day I came across a funeral parade of about nine vehicles other than the first three key units. Then the question came to mind, how many vehicles will behind me when my number is called, when my ship rolls in? Will it be a short line or a long line, is nine good, to many or not enough? Then my next thoughts are am I doing enough, giving enough, sharing and adding enough value to add the number of vehicles of those that will parade with me?

I know this is sounding a little strange from a motivational speaker, Mr. Encouragement, but it was real, the light went on, that "aha" moment. Am I living my legacy, am I adding value, encouraging change and making a difference? What will others say when my number is called? Will people remember me and the things that I've done, will I leave something that can be used year after year? My legacy is now, not tomorrow, not when it's to late, I must live and give and make a difference now and everyday. What about you? What will your legacy be? How many vehicles will be in your life parade?

Last Friday woke me up, made me start thinking even deeper about what am I doing, how am I living, it's time to get back to the drawing board. It's time to rediscover my passion, my business, my vision and mission in life while I can. I want that line to be long and take a long time. I want the police blocking the lights, people waiting at the lights to say stuff like, that person must have been important, or made a difference in those people's life. My legacy is now, I can't wait and waste time, I must get to work making a better me to offer more to my clients, more value to my training programs, more encouragement and hope for others. What did your last Friday do for you? Was it just another week coming to an end, a Friday Fish fry, or was it a tipping point for you to make new changes to your life vision and mission?

The fish fry is okay too, but Friday is never the end of the week it's the beginning of the weekend, so get to work, have fun, an discover what your legacy will be, what others will remember you by. Make sure that your parade ride home will be a long slow trip, with all those people taking about you, smiling, feeling good and thinking "wow" ______________ was great, will be missed yes, but not forgotten!

1>Live on less than you make: sounds simple right? If you're already upside down, then let's turn you right side up with a plan. Develop your business plan now for 2010, you don't have to own a business to create a business plan. You have income and expenses, that's just like a business, revenue and expenses.

2>Learn to be mindful about your money: think first, don't live on plastic. Is what I'm buying a want or a need? Should I or shouldn't I? Think first, don't spend money just to impress someone, don't buy what you can't afford to just pay for, and reduce those credit card purchases starting right now.

3>Build your rainy day fund: Let me tell you, it's going to rain and rain hard at times. I've been in floods up to my neck without a "rainy day fund" to get me through the hard times. Start a savings account and add a little every week, if you have a thousand dollars start with that. Add each week, reduce the "want" spending a turn it into savings. Think 3-6 months worth (cash) to get you through the storm. A dollar a day adds up real fast, it's like living like an ant, compounding. The ant works daily to store and bring back to the "nest egg". What's your nest egg look like today? Start today, build so one day you can spend without worry and stress.

Today is the day to begin living these 3 common sense wealth building tips, I believe you can do it, and by doing you can enjoy life with a little less stress and worry. That means you can eat more desserts.

We Have Arrived, 2010!

We have arrived, the New Year is here, can't wait to see what lies ahead of us, the opportunities, the challenges, the dreams to come true. I can't wait to see all that's going to go down from Health Care Issues, Terrorist, Weather, Floods, Snow storms, the North Pole melting, the Homeless, Veterans returning home, Cancer cures, new books to read, new people to meet, new presentations to give. This year is going to be a blast, it's like we're at the train station the conductor just tore the ticket and we're off and moving up the tracks. Some might say down the tracks but not me as a motivational speaker you got to think up not down!

The arrival only lasts a few hours, like 24 then we're off to the next day, week, month, Spring, Summer Fest, Labor Day, Thanksgiving then more snow again, let me slow this train down, I still have snow to shovel today. I need to live in the present right? The NOW, not next Winter. This New Year will bring many opportunities for us all IF we look for the good, praise the good in others, direct our thinking in a positive mindset, yes this year will be a blast.

I'll search out new clients to add value too, new programs that will inspire others for greatness, new sales strategies to help sales professionals make more money and new relationships. New concepts and ideas on self-motivational behaviors, new contacts to help connect to others. As the "Success4u Networker" my job is to help connect others and networks as a "Hub". As the "Encouragement Guy" my drive is to add hope and "Inspire Action" as the "Sales Development Pro" my mission is to help people and organizations maximize their potential, boy do I have many hat's to wear! Life is good, as a "Cancer Survivor" my mission is to add value, hope and encouragement to others to keep living and giving.

Yes we have arrived, but only for a few hours (24) then we're off and moving, each station allowing us the opportunity to add value to others and inspire change for the better. What's New With You in 2010?

What's new with you in 2010? this is what I call a "high importance" question to your success, health, financial growth, and relationships.

My recommendation to you is to find a quite place. no cell phones, Blackberries, cats, dogs, HDTV's, get a pad and two ink pens, just in case one runs out of ink on you. Begin with your name at the top just like in school, and start reflecting on the year, you'll need a good 2-4 hours to complete this task, but it will be worth every minute of time invested. Start writing all the good things that occurred, new relationships, business developments, family things, financial opportunities that have crossed your path. Write it all down, don't second question your thoughts, discovery the new you through this process of "Reflecting".

The what's new with you in 2010, can be built from the current years activities, accomplishments, wins, losses, bumps, dirt roads and the smooth paved highways that you have traveled. Most of all the relationships, this is key to your success in 2010 and what's new with you. When you develop new relationships, you learn, you grow, new things begin to happen in your life, new connections, ideas and opportunities. You will be the new you in 2010 based upon the relationships you have. No one get's any where without the help of others, leaders are only as good as the people closest to them, their "Inner Circle" advisor's. We are who we are today by the people that have added value to our life, teachers, parents, friends, co-workers, husbands, wife's, children, don't think you can't learn from them.

While reflecting write out the person's name that added value to you in the current year, then beside that write out what they value, if you don't know go find out. Life is all about adding value to each other, and we can only add value to others when we understand what they value. This can be fun, connecting is a joy, exciting, you never know where a new relationship can take you. We all feel good when we know that we've helped another, get out there and make deposits in other peoples's life, that may be your what's new with you in 2010, adding more value!

Paint the picture for yourself, create the vision of what will be new in your life in 2010, new stuff is exciting, challenging, people want to connect with people that got things happening in there life. Maybe it's a new hair color, new glasses, different look all together, maybe it's a new career, a new start-up business, network marketing, a new home, new goals and new business plan. This list can go on and on all day, I do have to get to work soon. If it's been a few years since the last business plan was developed, sit down and look it over, what got you there may not keep you there, look at your marketing DNA, your website, your business cards, what can be updated, changed and or improved on for the New Year? How will you stand out in the business world in 2010, in the crowd, how will you be seen and heard?

What is it that you can do differently with your family? More time with the kids, cook more meals for your mate, date night once a month, don't loose focus of what got you there, the fun, the dating. What about having your family create a list of "what's new with the family in 2010?" come together, filter thought everyone's ideas no matter how old or young, everyone has a mind and ideas, dreams of a better year.

Looking out the window for opportunities like a bird I can't get too!

Looking out the window for opportunities, like birds and things I can't get too, plus it's to cold says Peanut. Lessons from a cat again, yes, there is so much to learn just by observing, watching and listening. I've found that the more I observe Peanut the more I learn about leadership. I know it sounds a little funny, or maybe just plain weird. But I'm from the south and you know what they say about people from the south? You got it, we talk funny, had you there didn't I?

Here is our lesson on living like a kid (cat) for today. Sitting quietly, observing, listening and watching for something to come by the window of life's opportunities, this is what this is all about. As I watch Peanut just sit, timelessly, no movement, ears up, staring out the window hoping to see something that she can think about getting, eating, who knows. She can sit for hours, ears up  watching, listening maybe even preying on something, like we do our goals, our ideas, our purpose. I've realized that it's okay to listen more, observe more closely to my clients, prospects, just sit and learn, think to understand there needs so that I can be ready to leap, like a cat with solution's, programs, results, somewhat like Peanut, waiting for that one little bird.

In Peanuts case she can't get to every bird and we may not be able to get to every opportunity, but that doesn't stop her from sitting there for hours watching, thinking and dreaming. We too can keep watching, dreaming and thinking of what if, maybe tomorrow, next year, when my time comes, or we can act. I'm thinking if I opened the window Peanut would act and jump, but just for a short minute or two, it is 5 degrees out today as I write.

So in a "window seal" or a nutshell as some may say, it's time to keep watching, observing to learn, listening to understand, and when the opportunities come around take the risk, follow our passion, live aggressively and enjoy life just as Peanut does everyday. Sitting there looking out the window for that opportunity, the bird she can't get too, yet! There will be that sunny spring day again, it always follows winter, it's the seasons of life, and yes Peanut will be able to go out on her chain in the back yard as she's done for years now and wait for that opportunity to jump or climb the tree. Her day will come and your day will come, just keep watching, observing and listening and you will grow and opportunities will pass your way, life is good to all that look for the good.

Oh yes Peanut has a new box to climb in and out of daily, she's getting good at living life out of her box, what about you?

She wants to eat or play with her catch, I want to observe to learn, to grow, to be able too understand and offer more. So many times we go into meetings, interviews ready and loaded to lay out our ideas, plans and or answers, when we may gain more by observing, listening and asking questions to understand, to be in a position to add value. Peanut sit's at the window to dream of that little bird or whatever, we sit at the window to dream about our future, looking out at all the opportunities that await us as leaders, parents , customers, buyers, workers, looking for the right moment.

Live in the now, plan for tomorrow, dream of a awesome future and take some time looking out your window and make your dreams become ideas that can turn into action, Peanut recommends that you enjoy every second every day that you are given, and share a little love.

Making Yourself More Valuable; 4 Key Principles

Making yourself more valuable, brings greater value to your personal life as well as professional life. Being that this is a decision, let's make the decision to get moving on this subject. Many decisions are made daily, some major and then some minor, at times it's easy to spend major time on minor things. When it comes to making yourself more value I recommend spending major time on major objectives, like daily growth.

Loyality is an asset, and being loyal to making yourself more valuable is the same as increasing your assets. I will share four key prinicples that are simple to implement and can help you make a difference in your life by making yourself more valuable. The more valuable you are the more money you can make, the more people will want to be around you and the more referral business you will gain through these relationships. There's a couple of benefits for you to increase your value, and trust many there are many more, better personal relationships, better parents, more effective leaders, teachers, mentors you can be. the benefits go on and on and on. It's an endless pipeleine of wealth.

Enough selling you on the subject allow me share with you the four key principles, get your pen and paper and begin writing right now.

1> Read daily; reading allows you to learn more, the more you learn the more you can share, the more opportunities you have to share the more others will want more. You become a valuable mentor to one or more your call. First question is, what are your  major strengths? Second question is, what are you reading to enhance your strength zones? Invest in your value proposition, invest in yourself daily by reading. It's been said that the more you read, the more you know, and the more places you can go!

2> Ask Questions; Learn, learn and learn more by asking questions and listening to understand not to respond. The more questions you ask the more you will discover about yourself and the person or topic you are asking about. It's been said that questions are the answers, ask and you shall receive, if you talk to much you can't ask enough questions. It's okay to be a better listener than a better talker, a good conversation is about learning, you learn by listening and asking questions. How do you get to know more about people you come into contact with? Ask questions and learn, then find who you can connect them with to help add value, this make you very valuable, as a connector. Plus it shows true interest in the other person. A excellent way to win with people, which in return makes you more valuable to them and others.

3> Observing; There is sight and then there's insight, you gain in both areas by observing others, places and things. When you observe with sight, it's with your eyes, when you observe with insight it's with your mind, your intuition, your abilities, sight helps you see things insight helps you develop and create things. It's simple to become more valualbe by observing all situations daily, observe, ask questions and your value will increase before your eyes. Observe what others do, how they walk, what there office looks like, their likes and dislikes, the color of your customers eyes, the colors that they wear, you can learn so much just by observing others, you can become more valuable to others by observing and discovering things about other people, excellent tool for sales professionals, the ability to observe.

4> Experiences; Evaluate your experiences, learn from your mistakes, miss shots, relationships. Experience is good, but much more valuable when evaluated, reflected upon and action connected with the experiences makes the difference. Past experiences are great, but when though about and acted upon these experiences become learning objectives, opportunities for personal growth, which adds value and make you more valuable to others. Life offers us all many opportunities to fall and each one is a great experience to grow and get better, and add value to who you are, it's a great thing to hit the wall, fall off the wagon, wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Each action requires a reaction, a time to grow to worth more than the day before.

My recommendation to you is lead a "value-added life" daily by adding value to your life through these four key principles. Make a decision today that you will look for ways to add value to your strength zones, learn to read more, observe as much as you can and ask as many questions as possible, and take these experiences and grow with them.
